Quick Checklist (Bring to the Airport)
Required Documentation & Gear (must bring)
- Physical ID Card (animal & handler identification).
- Recognition Gear: Service Animal vest, bandana, or harness.
- ANA Special Assistance Approval (mandatory for all Service Dogs & PSAs).
- Veterinary Health Certificate depending on destination requirements.
- Rabies Vaccination Certificate compliant with Japanese import rules.
- Microchip (ISO-compliant) for international travel.
- Japan Quarantine Service Documentation for entry into Japan.
Preferred Documentation (greatly facilitates acceptance and pre-clearance)
- Registration Certificate (our approved registry is accepted by all airlines).
- Prescription Letter confirming PSA or Service Dog status.
- Behavior Certificate confirming calm temperament and public-safe behavior.
Steps to Take (in Order)
- Request ANA assistance-animal approval immediately after booking.
- Submit documents required by the Japan Animal Quarantine Service (AQS) for international arrivals.
- Carry all veterinary and approval documents in both printed and digital formats.
Route Limitations (Assistance Animals)
- ANA accepts trained Service Dogs and psychiatric service dogs on all eligible international and domestic flights.
- ESAs are not accepted under any circumstances.
- Japan has some of the strictest animal-entry rules globally, including microchip, rabies-free certification, and advance notice.
- On some regional aircraft, space limitations may apply.
- Advance quarantine approval may be required for certain routes.
