Quick Checklist (Bring to the Airport)

Required Documentation & Gear (must bring)

  • Physical ID Card (animal & handler identification).
  • Recognition Gear: Service Animal vest, bandana, or harness.
  • ANA Special Assistance Approval (mandatory for all Service Dogs & PSAs).
  • Veterinary Health Certificate depending on destination requirements.
  • Rabies Vaccination Certificate compliant with Japanese import rules.
  • Microchip (ISO-compliant) for international travel.
  • Japan Quarantine Service Documentation for entry into Japan.

Preferred Documentation (greatly facilitates acceptance and pre-clearance)

  • Registration Certificate (our approved registry is accepted by all airlines).
  • Prescription Letter confirming PSA or Service Dog status.
  • Behavior Certificate confirming calm temperament and public-safe behavior.

Steps to Take (in Order)

  • Request ANA assistance-animal approval immediately after booking.
  • Submit documents required by the Japan Animal Quarantine Service (AQS) for international arrivals.
  • Carry all veterinary and approval documents in both printed and digital formats.

Route Limitations (Assistance Animals)

  • ANA accepts trained Service Dogs and psychiatric service dogs on all eligible international and domestic flights.
  • ESAs are not accepted under any circumstances.
  • Japan has some of the strictest animal-entry rules globally, including microchip, rabies-free certification, and advance notice.
  • On some regional aircraft, space limitations may apply.
  • Advance quarantine approval may be required for certain routes.
