    • High-risk countries: Rabies Titer required

  • Prescription Letter (ESA, PSA, or Service Animal letter from a licensed professional)

Important Notes

  • A physical ID Card, Registration Certificate, and visible Recognition Gear speed up the processing.
  • No airport restrictions: Vatican City has no airport of its own. Entry occurs through Italy, and all Italian import rules apply before walking into Vatican territory.
  • Assistance Animals follow the same rules as pets because Vatican entry regulations mirror Italian laws.

Deworming / Tapeworm Treatment Rules

Vatican City follows Italian standards. Tapeworm treatment is not required for dogs entering from most regions.
Routine deworming is recommended for dogs walking in public parks around Rome or Vatican areas.

Restricted Breeds at Entry

Vatican City has no breed bans.
Since entry occurs through Italy, Italian leash and muzzle rules may apply to strong or protective breeds in public spaces.

Public Transport & Transit Rules

Movement within Vatican City is mostly on foot. Service Dogs are permitted everywhere except restricted ceremonial zones.
Pets may not be allowed inside certain buildings, but Service Dogs are accepted with minimal restrictions.
