Entering from Outside of Europe (International Entry)
Required Documentation & Gear (must bring)
- ISO-Compliant Microchip (must match all documents)
- Rabies Vaccination Certificate
- Puppy must be 12+ weeks old at the time of vaccination
- High-risk countries: Rabies Titer required
- Low-risk countries (Canada, Western Europe, etc.): Titer not required
- Veterinary Health Certificate (vet letter confirming no known diseases)
Preferred Documentation (greatly facilitates acceptance and pre-clearance)
- Physical ID Card (animal + handler)
- Recognition Gear (Service Animal vest, bandana, or harness)
- Prescription Letter (ESA, PSA, or Service Animal letter from a licensed professional)
Important Notes
- A physical ID Card, Registration Certificate, and visible Recognition Gear speed up the processing.
- No airport restrictions: Liechtenstein has no airports. Travelers must enter through Switzerland or Austria, and must follow the import rules of the country they enter through.
- Assistance Animals follow the same import rules as pets.
Deworming / Tapeworm Treatment Rules
Liechtenstein follows Swiss regulations: tapeworm treatment for dogs is not required for entry.
Routine deworming is recommended for dogs visiting mountainous or rural regions.
Restricted Breeds at Entry
Liechtenstein has no national breed bans.
However, because it shares regulations with Switzerland, certain cantonal (local) rules may require leashes or muzzles for strong breeds in public areas.
Public Transport & Transit Rules
Service Dogs are allowed on all regional bus systems linking Liechtenstein with Switzerland and Austria.
Pets may require a leash, muzzle, or ticket depending on the operator, but Service Dogs travel without restrictions.
