Italy: Laws & Regulations

🇮🇹 Italy’s Laws & Regulations for Assistance Animals are as follows:

Acceptance

Emotional Support Animals (ESA):Accepted with Conditions

Psychiatric Support Animals (PSA):Accepted Nationwide

Service Animals:Accepted Nationwide

Tip:Always carry your Physical ID Card, Recognition Gear, Registration Certificate, and Behavior Certificate. These items help ensure smooth acceptance across Italy.

Housing

Italy does not have a uniform national housing law requiring acceptance of assistance animals. Acceptance depends on landlords, building regulations, condominium rules, and rental agreements. Service Animals and PSAs are typically accepted with documentation. ESAs may require a prescription letter and proof of registration.

Air Travel

Airlines operating from Rome, Milan, Venice, Naples, Florence, and Bologna follow EU aviation standards. Most carriers allow Service Animals and PSAs in the cabin when documentation and behavioral compliance are met. ESAs are often accepted with conditions depending on airline policy and destination-country entry rules.

Tip:Our registry is approved by all airlines — having your ID card, registration certificate, and recognition gear ensures smoother verification at Italian and EU airports.

Public Access

Italy has strong accessibility and disability accommodations under national law and EU directives. Service Animals and PSAs are permitted in restaurants, hotels, shops, public transportation, hospitals, museums, government buildings, and tourist areas when properly identified. ESAs may be accepted with documentation, but public-access rights are not guaranteed.

Additional Notes

  • Service Animals & PSAs: recognized throughout Italy.
  • ESAs: accepted with documentation depending on venue.
  • Italy enforces EU-wide microchip, rabies vaccination, and pet-travel rules.
  • Recognition Gear helps reduce access delays, especially in busy tourist zones.
