Quick Checklist (Bring to the Airport)
Required Documentation & Gear (must bring)
- Physical ID Card (animal & handler identification).
- Recognition Gear: Service Dog vest, bandana, or harness.
- ITA Airways Pre-Approval required for Service Dogs & PSAs.
- EU Pet Passport or Valid International Health Certificate.
- Rabies Vaccination Certificate meeting EU/Italy import rules.
- Microchip ISO-compliant and matching all veterinary documents.
- Pet-in-Cabin Requirements (for ESA-style travel): carrier size, weight limit, and paid pet fee.
Preferred Documentation (greatly facilitates acceptance and pre-clearance)
- Registration Certificate (our approved registry is accepted by all airlines).
- Prescription Letter confirming PSA or Service Dog need.
- Behavior Certificate confirming safe and calm public behavior.
Steps to Take (in Order)
- Request ITA Airways assistance-animal approval immediately after booking.
- Verify EU & Italian veterinary import rules for your route.
- Carry printed and digital copies of all veterinary and approval documents.
Route Limitations (Assistance Animals)
- Service Dogs and PSAs are allowed on all ITA Airways domestic and international flights.
- ESAs may travel only as pets in cabin when allowed.
- Some destinations require additional veterinary regulations or health checks.
- Large Service Dogs may face space restrictions depending on aircraft model.
- Pet carriage may not be allowed on some long-haul or intercontinental routes.
