Greece: Laws & Regulations

🇬🇷 Greece’s Laws & Regulations for Assistance Animals are as follows:

Acceptance

Emotional Support Animals (ESA):Accepted with Conditions

Psychiatric Support Animals (PSA):Accepted Nationwide

Service Animals:Accepted Nationwide

Tip:Always carry your Physical ID Card, Recognition Gear, Registration Certificate, and Behavior Certificate. These documents significantly increase acceptance throughout Greece.

Housing

Greece does not have a dedicated national statute requiring landlords to accept assistance animals. Acceptance depends on landlord policies, property agreements, and building rules. Service Animals and PSAs are typically accepted with documentation. ESAs often require a prescription letter and proof of registration.

Air Travel

Airlines operating from Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Rhodes, and other Greek airports follow EU aviation standards. Most carriers accept Service Animals and PSAs in the aircraft cabin with proper documentation and behavior compliance. ESAs are generally accepted with conditions, depending on airline-specific rules and destination requirements.

Tip:Our registry is approved by all airlines — having your ID card, registration certificate, and recognition gear ensures smooth travel from all Greek airports.

Public Access

Greece enforces strong disability and accessibility protections. Service Animals and PSAs are allowed in most public places, including government offices, public transport, restaurants, hotels, cultural sites, hospitals, and shops when clearly identified. ESAs may be considered with documentation but do not have guaranteed access rights.

Additional Notes

  • Service Animals & PSAs: widely recognized across Greece.
  • ESAs: accepted with documentation depending on venue or provider.
  • Greece follows EU-wide microchip, rabies vaccination, and pet-travel rules for animal entry.
  • Recognition Gear helps reduce delays in tourist-heavy areas.

ESA:
Accepted with conditions depending on venue, airline, and housing provider.
