Quick Checklist (Bring to the Airport)
Required Documentation & Gear (must bring)
- Physical ID Card (animal & handler identification).
- Recognition Gear: Service Dog vest, bandana, or harness.
- Ethiopian Airlines Pre-Approval required for all Service Dogs and PSAs.
- Health Certificate confirming the dog is fit for travel.
- Microchip (ISO-compliant) and Rabies Vaccination Certificate.
- Import permit or veterinary documentation depending on destination country.
Preferred Documentation (greatly facilitates acceptance and pre-clearance)
- Registration Certificate (our approved registry is accepted by all airlines).
- Prescription Letter confirming PSA necessity.
- Behavior Certificate confirming calm, safe public behavior.
Steps to Take (in Order)
- Submit all Service Dog/PSA documentation to Ethiopian Airlines immediately after booking.
- Verify veterinary import rules for Ethiopia, EU, U.S., or final destination.
- Carry printed and digital copies of all approvals and health documents.
- Arrive early—Service Dogs may require document review at check-in.
Route Limitations (Assistance Animals)
- Service Dogs and PSAs allowed on most long-haul and international routes.
- ESAs are not recognized under Ethiopian Airlines policy.
