🇦🇺 Australia’s Laws & Regulations for Assistance Animals are as follows:
Acceptance
Housing
Australia does not have a single national housing statute for assistance animals. Acceptance is governed by state and territory anti-discrimination laws. Service Animals and PSAs are generally accepted with documentation. ESAs are accepted with conditions and usually require a prescription letter and supporting documentation.
Air Travel
Australia enforces some of the strictest aviation and biosecurity rules in the world. Airlines operating domestically and internationally recognize Service Animals and PSAs when documentation and advance approval requirements are met. ESAs are accepted with conditions and may face additional airline and government restrictions.
Public Access
Australia provides strong nationwide protections under disability law. Service Animals and PSAs are permitted in public transportation, shops, restaurants, hotels, hospitals, schools, government buildings, and workplaces when properly identified. ESAs may be accepted with documentation but do not have guaranteed public-access rights.
