Quick Checklist (Bring to the Airport)

Required Documentation & Gear (must bring)

  • Physical ID Card (animal & handler identification).
  • Recognition Gear: Service Animal vest, bandana, or harness.
  • U.S. DOT Service Animal Air Transportation Form (mandatory for PSAs & Service Dogs).
  • U.S. DOT Relief Attestation Form for flights 8+ hours.
  • Behavior Attestation confirming your dog is trained to behave safely.
  • Rabies Vaccination Certificate valid for the entire travel period.
  • Veterinary Health Certificate when required by destination.

Preferred Documentation (greatly facilitates acceptance and pre-clearance)

  • Registration Certificate (our approved registry is accepted by all airlines).
  • Prescription Letter confirming PSA or Service Dog need from a licensed professional.
  • Behavior Certificate verifying calm temperament and obedience.

Steps to Take (in Order)

  • Submit the DOT Forms immediately after booking.
  • Confirm additional requirements for Hawaii, Puerto Rico, or international destinations.
  • Bring all documentation in printed and digital copies.

Route Limitations (Assistance Animals)

  • PSAs and trained Service Dogs are accepted on all American Airlines routes.
  • ESAs are not accepted under any circumstances.
  • Hawaii and international destinations may require additional veterinary documentation.
  • Space limitations apply for large Service Dogs depending on aircraft type.
  • Dogs must remain well-behaved during boarding and in flight.
