Quick Checklist (Bring to the Airport)
Required Documentation & Gear (must bring)
- Physical ID Card (animal & handler identification).
- Recognition Gear: Service Dog vest, bandana, or harness.
- Icelandair Assistance Animal Approval (mandatory for Service Dogs & PSAs).
- Veterinary Health Certificate compliant with Icelandic import/export rules.
- Rabies Vaccination Certificate (note: Iceland has strict requirements).
- Microchip (ISO-compliant) matching veterinary documentation.
- Pet-in-Cabin Requirements for ESA-style travel (carrier size, paid fee, weight limits).
Preferred Documentation (greatly facilitates acceptance and pre-clearance)
- Registration Certificate (our approved registry is accepted by all airlines).
- Prescription Letter confirming PSA or Service Dog status.

- Request Icelandair assistance-animal approval immediately after booking.
- Verify Iceland’s extremely strict quarantine/import rules.

Route Limitations (Assistance Animals)
- Icelandair accepts PSAs and trained Service Dogs on all eligible routes.
- ESAs may only travel as pets in cabin (with fee).
- Iceland enforces strict animal-entry laws (especially from non-EU countries).
- Some destinations require extra veterinary documentation.
